Kashmir-Protest against Illegal Revocation of Article 370

Indian Independence Day on 15th August 2019 to be marked as black day all over the world

Jeremy Corbyn Leader of the Labour Party UK has called for implementation of the respective UN resolutions and publicly stated that “The situation in Kashmir is deeply disturbing. Human rights abuses taking place are unacceptable. The rights of the Kashmiri people must be respected and UN resolutions implemented.”

Indian government’s decision to revoke the Article 370 of the Indian constitution which since 1950’s granted a special status to occupied Kashmir is a setback to peace efforts undertaken by the United Nations, UNSC and on other bilateral platforms with India by Pakistan. This illegal revocation will start a cycle of violence instituted by the Nazi inspired Hindu right wing The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of India.

A protest will take place on 15th August from 1300 hours in front of the Indian High Commission London. Address is India House, Aldwych, London WC2B 4NA nearest underground stations: Temple on District Line & Holborn on Piccadilly Line. According to Raja Sikander Khan Chairman Global Pakistan and Kashmir Council all UK campaigners, civil rights movements, trade unions, political parties and religious communities are urged to join the demonstration organised in London on 15th August 2019 at the Indian High Commission in London, UK.

All law-abiding peace-loving communities living in the UK understand that this move by the right-wing extremist Prime Minister Narendera Modi is designed to establish Hindutva brand nationalism across a secular India. This regressive strategy is a huge setback for the people across the world who believes in religious, social harmony and peaceful co-existence of different communities together.

Given the record of Narendera Modi & his BJP in Gujrat, where they presided over killings of thousands of Muslims during the Babri Mosque riots. It is feared that Kashmiri Muslims living under the illegal occupation will now face the same fate. It is a well-known fact that under BJP government Sikh community in India are facing persecution based on their religious identity. As highlighted at the World Sikh Parliament’s conference in May 2019 in Birmingham, the only realistic long-term prospect of resolving territorial disputes and avoiding catastrophic conflict in the region is to implement the right of self-determination in both Kashmir and Punjab.

It is also pertinent to note that Benjamin Netanyahu will be the first head of state visiting India next month. He will be leading a delegation whose sole interest is to further advise Narendra Modi how to marginalise Kashmiri Muslims and other minorities living in India. The BJP has made it very clear that they will super impose Hindutva policies.

To do this they will follow the Israeli template of creating illegal settlements across Kashmir. Modi’s plan is to settle scores of Hindus in the occupied Kashmir in direct violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 which prohibits any change to the demography of an occupied territory. It is now clear to the world that BJP’s aim is to reduce Kashmir’s 97% Muslim majority into a minority. This will involve building heavily fortified colonies for Hindus resembled Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

UK based writer and campaigner Aftab Siddiqui adds: “We cannot allow creation of another Gaza Strip anywhere in the world and especially not in an area where nuclear armed neighbours Pakistan and China have territorial conflicts due to illegal occupation of Kashmir and Ladakh territory by India and its annexation through revocation of Article 370”.

The Chinese government has also criticized India’s decision to change the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement released on the revocation of Article 370 Tuesday 6th August, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was opposed to the move because Beijing’s claims to part of the disputed territory were included in the Indian-administered region. It further adds that “China is always opposed to India’s inclusion of the Chinese territory in the western sector of the China-India boundary into its administrative jurisdiction,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a statement.

Organizers of the protest on 15th August are calling on the global community, legislators and world leaders to demand BJP government of India to immediately:

• Withdraw its revocation of Article 370 and reinstate Kashmir it in its original form

• Withdraw it’s over 500,000 troops and reduce military presence in Kashmir

• Release all political leaders and political workers who are under illegal confinement by the BJP government

• Immediately allow UN observers into the occupied territory. Allow UN to make preparation to undertake plebiscite as per The United Nations Security Council Resolution 47, adopted on 21 April 1948.
